We get it; you guys are excited and ready to try nutpods. If you can believe it, I am even MORE excited to launch and have you try nutpods. We wanted to give you a production update so you can follow along with our progress from an idea to a commercial product.
A carrageenan-free formula is extremely hard. And not just for me. Several large companies have given themselves and their R&D staff up to two years to phase it out:

It all revolves around the formula. The formula dictates the food certifications, packaging, and processing technique. After many versions (25 and counting), we thought we had a formula that was ready for production. However, the last trial yielded a thicker product (heavier than a whipping cream) than we wanted (like a half & half). It's a minor technical set back and we have a plan in place to solve this issue.
It is similar to making your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe each month. Sometimes, the cookies come out flat and crispy. Sometimes, soft and chewy. Other times, light and dry. All while using the same recipe and the same ingredients. It can be as simple an issue as the temperature of the butter or the freshness of the baking soda.
To put it in those terms, we're working to find out if it's our baking soda, butter or the oven temperature. In our case, we aren’t just risking a batch of cookies. We are looking at risking $200K+ in a single commercial run. This isn’t some nameless corporation’s budget money; it's real money, from our family and the handful of investors that believe in us and nutpods. Hence, we must ensure product quality.
The good news is that nutpods’ taste and richness in coffee is perfect. The great news is that the grocery stores and coffee shops we've approached love nutpods and are excited about our launch. We are extremely proud to be the only dairy-free alternative to half & half!
We started our company with a kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to convert our kitchen recipe into a working full-scale commercial formula. Those funds were put to good use for our initial rounds of R&D. Now we've taken on investors to keep going because we are committed to bringing this product to market.
